    • Best High Definition DVD player at the moment

      431 days ago | hdtvorg.co.uk

The biggest reason to get excited about Blu-ray at the moment is its hi-def abilities. Whereas DVDs have a native resolution of 576p, Blu-ray's extra memory capacity means it can deliver movies at 720p, 1080i and 1080p resolution - that's up to four times the detail of a DVD. Upscaled DVD playback isn't quite so impressive, and there are cheapish DVD players out there that do a better job of this - but this isn't the point, the Panasonic is simply the best High Definition DVD player out there at the moment.

    • Mediocre functional design

This expensive Blu-ray Disc player looks pretty on the surface, but it has a mediocre functional design and middling image quality. The player's built-in audio decoding is a step above that of some of the other Blu-ray players: The unit can decode Dolby Digital Plus 5.1-channel audio--the only Blu-ray player in our roundup to do so.

    • Superb Product

Judged purely as a DVD/CD/Blu-ray player, the Panasonic is a superb product. It does an outstanding job playing back Blu-ray Discs, is a fine DVD player with good upconversion capabilities, and is a good CD player as well. It does have several weaknesses. Its analog outputs will not be optimum in some systems, and its DVD-Audio playback is problematic. If you are counting on these other features, I recommend caution, or at least a trial run. But if you want top quality, first-generation Blu-ray player, it's definitely worth a close look.

If one were to compare this Panasonic player to the offerings in the HD DVD arena from Toshiba, it would be very safe to say that the picture equals the Toshiba player's on material that is available on both formats. It will probably take dual layer Blu-Ray releases with potentially higher bitrates to really see if the Blu-Ray format is capable of producing a better image than HD DVD. Since the current crop of releases that are available on both formats make use of the same transfers, it is going to be impossible to distinguish between the two. I'll take a look at the Paramount releases this week and follow up on any advances in picture quality that there might be. Until then, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Panasonic DMP-BD10 to those who are willing and ready to make the jump into HD.

Great tv upgraded from a 50' Sony SXRD.This Samsung Tv is alot better than the Sony SXRD.Better depth in colors and alot more brighter.Sound from tv is okay.Has 3 HDMI imputs which is a plus.Add a Samsung BLU RAY 1080P Dvd Player. With a monster surge protector clean power stage 2 model and a monster HDMI cable. You will not belive the pix very clean with tons of detail. You have to get a monster cable surge protector with stage 2 clean power for this tv.Not only will it help with the pix.But it will also help regulate the power going to the tv.So your led bulb will last a lifetime.

I also had problems with the sensor on the TV not working (the remote worked fine on the DVD player but not the TV). I took the remote with me back to the store, it worked on their floor model so they swapped out the TV and the new one worked great.

    • Provides excellent picture quality

The HL-T5687S provides excellent picture quality with 1080p (1920×1080 pixel resolution) HD and very deep black levels with accurate colors, and no rainbow effect which is common to DLP sets. The Samsung HL-T5687S is also “3D Ready for future 3D media, and offers a very large HDTV at a very reasonable price. Cnet have reviewed the HL-T5687S and say, overall, the HL-T5687S delivered a solid, deep shade of black, and the letterbox bars and dark areas of the image appeared every bit as inky as the Samsung plasma, and darker than the other two plasmas we had on hand. The Samsung HL-T5687S looked every bit as sharp as the 1080p Pioneer plasma and, frankly, as the lower-resolution Samsung and LG plasmas next to it.
