    • It's reliable, secure and fast.

For months now I've been struggling with my BT 105 Voyager ADSL modem using the Eciadsl Linux driver, but with the repeated syncronisation problems, disconnections and general unpredictability I decided it was time to invest in an Ethernet modem. Then I discovered the Netgear DG834G 54Mbps Wireless ADSL Modem Firewall Router on Amazon. This is an awesome piece of all in one hardware, that's a real dream to configure through Firefox/IE (great idea). It's reliable, secure and fast. I only wish I'd invested in one sooner. It is great value for money too! The only problem I had was with my wireless laptop card. This was easily solved extracting the Windows .inf file and compiling using ndiswrapper in Ubuntu Dapper Drake. Although this will not affect the 90% of Windows users out there who should have no problems...tech support what do you think?

    • They are so simple to set up and they work very well

I bought 2 of these as they seemed good value. So good in fact, I bought them because I couldn't not. I did not even have a home for 1 of them, but I gave it to my mum in the end. She had a Speedtouch 330 modem which kept kicking her offline, and the Netgear DG834G 54Mbps Wireless ADSL Modem Firewall Router solved that problem straight away. I love them, and I am about to buy another. They are so simple to set up and they work very well. Good wireless reception as well.

    • Very easy to set up even without the CD

Been in IT for many years and I have used many routers and to date the only ones I have found to be excellent for home use are Netgear, Linksys and Belkin. I was using a DLink and it had to be restarted every day to allow access to the net. Got the Netgear DG834Gv3 last week and it just works! Very easy to set up even without the CD. But for those that need help just pop in the CD in and enter your details. Easy! Wireless also is at 100% signal strength through one wall and one ceiling.

    • I love the way netgear routers look

Ok, sounds good. Though first a sad story, well kind of. I had my trusty DG824M since July 2003, to replace my DG814. I was planning to upgrade any week now, but then, for no reason, the router died. Just like that. Luckily, with a 3 year warranty, I feel a little better, and have registered and emailed netgear about this issue. I bought the latest DG834GT, because I love the way netgear routers look. By far the best looking, most boring part of a PC. Well done netgear for this. This review is not a big tech review of how well the router does something fancy, but a mini review, to show what u get, does it work, and is it good. Nothing more.

    • I've never had to phone AOL customer services since

      452 days ago | amazon.co.uk

I've had this router for over a year now and never experienced any problems. My ISP is AOL, and before I got this router, I didn't have a moment's rest because the modem provided by AOL (a BT Voyager) was a nightmare. I've never had to phone AOL customer services since. The router is aesthetically pleasing, easy to set-up and completely compatible with AOL (whether or not they insist they don't support it). I've recommended this product to many of my friends (who use Plusnet and BT Broadband) and they have had no issues with it either. I can only assume that other reviewers' complaints of the router are due to their own human error or to a bad batch of the router. I thoroughly recommend this product.

    • It omits the Mac OS under the "system requirements".

      452 days ago | amazon.co.uk

The description of this item says that it is Mac OS comaptible. I actually examined one of these in a shop before purchasing it from Amazon, and it does say Mac compatible on the box. However, the reality is that only the modem/router is mac compatible; the USB adaptor is not. This makes the whole package completely useless if you have a mac. The USB adapter requirements are actually written on the bottom of the box - a less than obvious place. Even there, it doesn't say that the item is incompatible with Macs. It only omits the Mac OS under the "system requirements" header.

    • Great kit, so long as it works first time

First the unit I received was defective. (Amazon were great, got a replacement within 7 days.) Installed belkin wireless cards and then the troubles started. Belkin blamed Netgear, and visa-versa. Hours spent on the phone to kindly Belkin staff and rude-as-hell, condescending Netgear support. Finally I bought Netgear cards, again problems. The latest card, Netgear WG311GE, did not work with the DG834G. More aggravation, more rude 'tutting' and inferences as to my imbicility until the Netgear support guy finally came to the conclusion that their card was the problem, and the previous 'Netgear WG311' cards were required. Netgear then swapped them out. Installed the 'WG311' cards, loaded the software and 5 minutes later I was up and running and have been now for 4 months -no problems. Great kit, so long as it works first time, because their support staff both in India and U.K. are 'orrible!

    • It is good value for money !

      452 days ago | wireless.gumph.org

As the router has standard 802.11g wireless, it is good value for money, and as long as the area you are trying to cover wirelessly isn't too large then will perform well. For connecting offices together it is much cheaper than other adsl vpn routers, though without WDS support would only be of wireless use in a relatively small office. Overall the router has a slightly odd mix of features, but performs well and is very simple to setup - making the netgear dg834g a good buy for a home user.

    • I have to say i am extremely satisfied

      452 days ago | rxpgonline.com

I've been using my Netgear Wireless Router for over 7 months now and have experienced the occasional disconnection, but other than that i've found it to be great hardware for wireless networking. It's reliable and fast, what more do you need in a modem router? The price however, was not very reasonable as i bought it for about £80.00 at the time, for those going out to purchase now it will find the price has decreased significantly, which will make the router a great all-rounder - for the price as well as functional side of it. Being a first time Netgear customer, I have to say i am extremely satisfied with the brand and would reccommend it anytime. I was quite anxcious at first about how i would go about configuring it, but it was all done within 15 mins and I'm no computer whizz. A friend of mine bought the belkin router and found it crashing countless times, she has now bought the Netgear one and is as satisfied with it as i am. Five stars from me!
