Simple and well designed flash player
1 out of 1 users found this review usefulAt heart this is just a simple, well-designed flash player. The graphics may not be sexy, but the attractive physical design makes up for it. Plus, the device's FM tuner and recorder, along with line-in recording, make the gigabeat a solid purchase in the 2 GB portable media player department. And, at the moment anyway, it is $50 cheaper than a 2 GB nano.

AVOID!
This thing uses an iPod method of requiring you to load proprietary software onto your computer to use it. Sorry, that's why many of us avoid iPods in the first place. Avoid this product, it looks cute, but it sucks and is a waste of money and, more importantly, a waste of time!

Good looking and competitively priced
Toshiba's first flash player has boring graphics and limited file support, but it is easy to navigate, good-looking, and competitively-priced.

Amazing quality at a great deal
If you are looking for the best quality sound and picture in High Definition at an affordable price, look no further. I bought this a week ago and I have not stopped using it. Movies look amazing in full 1080P, especially if you have an HD television. The price that Toshiba put on this player is very reasonable considering youre getting the highest quality picture and the next generation of High Definition movie watching. I would highly recommend this to anyone trying to get the best picture and sound out of their new HDTVs.

Pretty Cool
Pros: Stellar picture w/HD DVD and really good with widescreen DVD's also. Good remote layout. Setup is simple. A good 1080P player, even if HD DVD's lose out against Blu Ray.

Solid player
If HDMI 1.3 and 1080p60 are on your list of what you want in a HD DVD player, then the A20 fits the bill. It is a solid player that is a nice improvement over the first generation hardware, but we do miss the discrete analog outputs and the coax digital output. Toshiba continues to improve its players and keep the pressure on the Blu-ray camp to improve theirs. While the A20 doesn't seem like enough of an improvement over the A1 to entice owners to upgrade, it is most certainly a solid offering and comparable to any next-gen player from any manufacturer.

Best HD DVD player in the market today
HD-A20, with its ABT1018 chipset from Anchor Bay (DVDO), is not only an incredible value for the money, but quite possibly the best HD DVD player on the market today. The image quality the HD-A20 is capable of achieving with both HD DVD and standard DVDs is truly impressive. Throw in its surprising musicality and you’re left with one hell of a good player, and not just for the price. With all the headaches I received from my first-generation HD DVD player, the Toshiba HD-XA1, I began to wonder if Toshiba was ever going to catch up to Blu-ray. Well, they have, and done so with gusto.

Just Plain Works, and Works Well
I just got this last week, and I've been surprised at how easy it's been to deal with. I plugged the HDMI cable (not included in the box, which is a shame, but I bought one with Amazon's deal for a good price) into my Sharp Aquos 42" LCD, and the optical cable into my stereo, and that was pretty much it. The unit fired up, it delivers a gorgeous picture with great sound, and that's really all there is to it. The only trouble I had was trying to connect it to the internet, but that was because I was setting up a wifi connection; if I'd just had an ethernet cable to plug into the back it would've been simple. All in all, it's dead simple to use, delivers exactly as promised, and is at a price point that may just bring it into the reach of a lot of people like me who were on the fence for so long.

A mild let-down
Overall, the HD-A20 is a mild let-down. The user-experience is terrible: the out-of-box experience, the remote, the setup and the rebates all suck. But the picture is absolutely beautiful and my movies look and sound of perfect. Hopefully in their next generation of players, Toshiba gets the details right.
