The quality of the images shot indoors under murkier lighting conditions, in addition to shooting fast-action like sports, leaves a question-mark over whether will suit everybody, but for the most part the GZ-MG77 will delight all but the most critical home user.

The JVC Everio GZ-MG77 Hard Disk Drive (HDD) camcorder is a good light easy to use camcorder for people who don’t want to use a lot of features, but would like the flexibility of a HDD camcorder.

The bottom line: The small size and massive video storage capacity of the JVC Everio GZ-MG77 make it a tantalizing choice, but poor video quality keeps this hard-disk-based camera from being a tape- or DVD-killer.

The good: Small and well-designed; stores 7 hours of video. The bottom line: Though small and well designed, the JVC Everio GZ-MG57's performance and video quality can't match the competitions'.

JVC's G-series camcorders are an excellent value. The GZMG57 is no exception. I bought this for my wife and she is thrilled. She likes the point-and-click simplicity, the millions of features, the simple video browsing (playback) mode, and the quality of the video. It takes wonderful INDOOR pictures (as well as outdoor) thanks to a f1.2 lens, has a built-in light (unlike the GZMG7x models), shoots wide-screen (16:9), stores 7 hours of highest quality video, has an SDRAM card (and easy controls to transfer to / from the hard drive), and a 15x zoom.

The good: Competitively priced; smooth, full 1080p resolution without dithering artifacts or rainbows; achieves relatively deep blacks; proper 1080i deinterlacing; separate Theater Pro picture mode; minimal wasted cabinet space to sides of screen. The bottom line: With its competitive image quality and price, the JVC HD-61FH96 is a strong contender against the other 1080p big screens on the market.

The 61-inch HD61FH96 ($5499) is one of three JVC HD-ILA sets sporting 1080p resolution (1920x1080, progressive), though like most current 1080p sets it will not accept a direct, native 1080p source signal at its inputs. The set has both ATSC (DTV/HDTV) and NTSC (standard definition analog) tuners, together with CableCARD capability. The set's sound system is more than adequate for casual use, and may be best described as "pleasant" for those times when you don't want to turn on the external sound system that most UAV readers will certainly have.

The JVC clearly has the most vivid and intense colors coupled with very black blacks. In a word, the display is Gorgeous. The remote is a mixed bag. On the plus side, the remote has full backlighting and easy one button access to very important functions such as aspect ratio; picture mode (intensity) and sound field. The stock sound of the built –in JVC speakers is surprisingly good (better than the Sony), and the sound-field functions are very usable including settings for talk; movies; or music.

Our new 61" JVC does everything as advertized. The set is used in a well lit living room. It handles all the sun light very well set on Dynamic. After dark, using Theater Mode reduces the light output and makes for a perfect picture. A plasma has a better viewing angle than LCoS and are much thinner, but Plasma reflects every picture, light and window in the room. Plasma sets will not have as good a picture as an LCoS set and cost considerably more to buy.
