Excellent Home Theatre in a box.
I originally purchased a Sony upconverting DVD player to hook up to my new Panasonic plasma TV. But, when I hooked the DVD player up to my five year old surround sound system all I heard was a buzzing sound through the speakers. The picture was excellent but not the sound. So I returned the Sony and purchased the Panosonic system. It was out of the box and set up within 30 minutes. Great sound and the upconverted DVD picture quality is incredible. The only thing I dont like is that you can't changethe speaker wires.

Great value, everything you need plus some good features
The SC-PT650 system's strengths are its high-resolution DVD up-conversion, iPod Dock, and sound quality. My DVDs look great on my Panasonic TH-50PX75U HDTV, which doesn't even make full use of the DVD player's maximum 1080p up-conversion. The iPod Dock is a convenient add-on, and you can even do some iPod controls by remote (skipping and pausing). Lastly, sound quality was great, especially for a budget system (not that I have much experience with anything other than budget systems). The only drawback is the lack of video inputs, but I don't think this should be a problem because any TV requiring a home theater system of this quality should also have plenty of video inputs, so you can just hook up a game system directly to the TV. Also, the iPod Dock works only with the 30 and 60 GB video iPods, and the aluminum iPod nano. Any others will require a small adapter.

Good for the money
Panasonic's budget-priced SC-PT650 home theater system sounds good for the money and delivers a decent roster of features--but the step-up model is an even better deal.

Spend a little more, and get something better
Sounds ok, but the menu interface is horrible. You need to have it hooked up to the tv to go through the menu, which means you have to change the input on your tv to this system to change anything in the menu. No EQ settings, nor any other adjustments.Basically, you're better off spending a little more and getting a samsung or sony or any other theatre systems. All this system has going for it is the looks and size and ok sound quality.

Ok product
The LG LFD790 wins points for its cool looks, low price, and decent feature set, but a variety of design and interface miscues make it tough to recommend.

Big sound, small package
1 out of 1 users found this review usefulSumming up, this Philips HTS8100 Ambi Sound DVD Home Theater System is easy to set up, gives you a lot more options for speaker placement than you'd have with a 5.1 surround system, delivers decent simulated surround sound, is unobtrusive in the living room, looks great and sounds even better.

Average performance
The Philips HTS8100 is a great option for those without the space for a full 5.1 surround sound setup, but its relatively average performance in other areas prevents it from being an outstanding product.

Excellent piece of home entertainment hardware
It's designed for smaller spaces such as apartments that don't have room for a full surround set-up, or for those who don't have the inclination to run cables through their living rooms. It's certainly compact and is shaped to sit neatly below a large plasma or LCD TV. The iPod dock is excellent and goes beyond a token inclusion. It's fully integrated so you can control your iPod menu directly from the SoundBar remote and TV screen. What you get for your money, though, is an excellent piece of home entertainment hardware that won't require you to arrange your living room around it.

Stylish
The exceedingly stylish Philips HTS8100 SoundBar packs the home theater experience--including a DVD player--into one slim package plus a sub.

Sony DAV-X1V
The good: 2.1-channel virtual surround system; elegant design; five-disc DVD/CD/SACD changer; automatic speaker setup and calibration; tiny, two-way/three-driver satellites; dual 6-inch subwoofer; HDMI output; simplified cable hookup. The bottom line: Sony's lavishly designed DAV-X1V system sounds great on DVDs and less dreamy on music.
