he only negatives with this unit, and they are minor, is that the bulb life is 2000 hours (many other units have a lamp life of 3000 to 4000 hours) and it vents a good deal of hot air when running (only an issue if you are sitting beside the vent)? Best of all, although this unit has a list price of $3999, you can find it for $2000 if you look around. At that price, this projector is a downright steal!

Perfect for a home theater projector. With this unit, why would you ever go out to the movies again?

I bought this from a local electronic retailer. I had to buy a new Projection TV because my old one was finally ready for the trash heap. But after shopping around and looking into price verses features I liked this Hitachi the best I even looked in the stores and on the web. But only after plugging up this model did I see how bad my old one really was! This TV blew me away right out of the box. Now this TV is a CRT but delivers a awesome picture and the HDTV Is even better. If you have or use an antenna you can actually pick up HDTV Channels with this model for free and even some DTV this has a HDTV tuner as well as a Analog tuner all though this TV may not be as good as a DLP Or LCD. CRT's are more reliable And Trust worthy. The picture is so great and so close you'd never know the difference between this and it's other counter parts on the market. My buddy down the block has a LCD and he paid about 6 times what this CRT cost me and he now wishes he had bought this model instead. Some sales man told him in stead buy a LCD it was a better picture but he swears he can't see where it is so go figure. Now the sound on this model is ok. But not the greatest if your looking for the "Movie Theater experience" then your gonna want to buy a Surround Sound System as well I mean you did just drop the dough for a great TV why not go ahead and buy your self some awesome sound and have a TV room all your friends and family will want to be at during the game or even just to watch a great movie. Hope this review helps you in your buying as far as I am concerned I am a totally happy consumer and the TV is far better then I thought it would be?.

The whole unit is on wheels which is an amazing feature. It's effortless to move it for cleaning and attaching new devices. It has composite, component and s-video inputs. As well as optical audio out, and rca audio out. You can use the TV speakers as your center speaker if your surround sound receiver supports it. Using the component inputs to attach devices to the TV gives the sharpest picture I have ever seen on a big screen TV, I think it's even better than the $4000 plasma screens I've seen.

The Magic Focus feature works fairly well for automatically converging the CRT "guns." They still need a little tweaking, but not much at all. Another favorite feature is the day/night mode which allows you to set up 2 different picture settings on each input, allowing for the best picture quality in different lighting conditions. You can toggle between your day and night settings with the push of a single button. Also, the split-screen option on the PIP (Picture-in-Picture) is a welcome feature. The use of all the features on this tv are remarkably easy to use.

I have been pricing TV for several months, couldn't find a console TV, and didn't really want to get one as big as 51". But New Years Day a local retailer had a sale and a price I couldn't refuse. I got this set for $677. I compared picture quality to plasmas and lcd and actually like this better. So far no complaints on this end. My sister has an HD set from another manufacturer and I don't like the picture on it. Makes me nauseas to watch as the people are short and squatty. Mine is many times better and was many dollars cheaper!!!

Hitachi is a top name with a great track record. Yes, it's somewhat dated on the technological side of things, but for the price you will not beat it.
The picture generally looks poor in the showroom because they adjust the settings to make it look bad next to the plasmas and LCD sets. They want to sell you the margin makers.
Get it home, adjust the settings and give it an HD feed and prepare to be blown away.

This has been a good alternative to the much more expensive Plasma and LCD screens out there. The HD is remarkedly better then the standard format and the color and brightness is very good. I've had this set for over a year now and I have had not problems at all. I do wish the audio and accessory jacks were easier to read and to get to though. One other nice thing, it's on wheels, so it's easy to move around.

You can use the TV speakers as your center speaker if your surround sound receiver supports it. Overall this TV is amazing, the features are great, the price is great and the picture quality is incredible.

The good: Accurate color decoding; excellent connectivity with three HDMI and three component-video inputs; comprehensive aspect ratio controls; CableCard slot; slick styling; swivel stand. The bottom line: Anchored by great connectivity, the Hitachi 42HDS69 competes well against other 42-inch plasmas in both price and picture quality.
