The Journi is one sexy, well-designed product. It folds up into a beautiful leather carrying case that's easy to pack because it's only about 6.5 by 10 by 1.3 inches. But it sounds terrible, so only buy this product if you're looking for something stylish—and audio performance really isn't a concern.

It’s a good thing, then, that Journi’s priced more aggressively than both of these peers: for the $130 asking price, it delivers a bit more in features—particularly in charging and synchronization options—than the current crop of mm50s, and includes a case, which is absent from the iM600. Overall, we’d be inclined to recommend the mm50 instead on sound, and the iM600 if you need a radio or superior styling, but its combination of features and good battery life make Journi a good enough offering to quality for our general recommendation. On sound quality, we’d put it closer to the flat B range, but we think that its charging versatility, smart magnetic remote, and aggressive pricing make it a closer competitor to the mm50 and iM600 than that. You can make the call as to which system’s feature set and pricing best meets your personal needs and sonic tastes.

For iPod owners who aren't superpicky about sound and want an ultracompact portable speaker system with a sweet design and a nice array of features, the Griffin Journi is a decent option.

We’re excited about the iKaraoke but would like it to offer a more consistent experience. Unfortunately, it is unable to deliver seamless karaoke enjoyment using an iPod just yet.

iKaraoke is flawed in many ways but if you like to sing along with recorded music you'll probably enjoy using it in spite of its issues. You may be asking yourself why I would give iKaraoke a 3-microphone rating if it's as flawed as I say. The answer is that in spite of all the issues iKaraoke was still fun to use. The reverb effect makes your voice sound kind of professional, and while the backing tracks often sound muddy, they still sound good enough to sing along with.

It's a great idea by Griffin but it doesn't really work that well. Your voice doesn't come out that well, and depending on where you live limits you to finding an fm channel.

Griffin manages to pack many features into the tiny iKaraoke, which will satisfy basic karaoke needs (as well as a bit of gadget lust) while allowing you to sing along to any music on your iPod.

The Griffin iKaraoke is cute and does a fine job as a mic, but it seriously fails in the karaoke department.

In our testing, iKaraoke’s FM transmission wasn’t as clear as it could have been - a factor weighing on our rating, but one Griffin claims will be remedied in later product updates - and we think that more sophisticated voice filtering tricks and lyric-adding software would be needed to fully execute on the device’s promise. Our standard-level recommendation recognizes the unit’s good performance for a reasonable price, but leaves room for what we hope will be future improvement.
