I would highly recommend this camcorder to anybody seeking a hard disk drive camcorder. The CCD may not be a full mega pixel but the video quality is decent. Also it is very easy to use. Its size is also an advantage. The 34x optical zoom works really well and when you add the digital zoom you can zoom up to 68x before the video quality starts deteriorating. The digital image stabilization works good, but not as well as the optical image stabilizers in Panasonic's cameras and camcorders. You will need to buy a spare battery though because the included battery has a short life.

In my opinion, I use the camera for just about everything, I record anyting that looks interesting. But, I tell you, it's a pain getting them edited, or onto a dvd with current software I had. I have to use their specific software, because my current dvd software doesn't support .mod format. If they would have recorded into another format, it would be the perfect camera. But for that downfall, I give it an eight.

Buy if you plan on making good, long movies and will use often. For occasional use, more basic camcorders can be found for less.

Overall we've very happy with the camera. We went to Best Buy to purchase it and got the warranty, which covers cleanings, and just about any form of damage (including if I drop it, which could very well happen) except loss or theft. Hopefully we'll continue to be happy with our purchase.

Wow, these HDD cams get such negative reviews, but IMHO I really like this cam. Of course, things can be improved(i.e. a better lens, record in .mpg, not .mod) but for family activities and around the house shooting this cam is great! To be honest, I really could not tell the diff b/w the MG255 and MG155 video quality. If you really wanna see improvement you'll have to go with the MG555. Anyhow, I love the size and I love the HDD. I love that it records in a file format that is easily transferable to the computer(as well as easily editable[magix is a great program for beginners]). I would definitely recommend! I really don't understand the negative press. It's definitely not perfect but it suites my needs quite well...

This definately helps me keep up with the times, as tape camcorders are soon to be extinct, and DVDcorders are so problematic. I have used this on a weekly basis since I purchased it. The quality of the picture is great. It's fairly small and there's not alot of bulky extras to go with it. You can record and produce your own DVD in a matter of just a few hours.

It is difficult to label any current hard-disk camcorder as budget-friendly, but the JVC Everio GZ-MG77 proves to be a better value for the money than most similar models. Digital stills are captured at 2.2-megapixel resolution and can be stored on the hard drive or an SD memory card, and the GZ-MG77 has a built-in flash for photography.

The quality of the images shot indoors under murkier lighting conditions, in addition to shooting fast-action like sports, leaves a question-mark over whether will suit everybody, but for the most part the GZ-MG77 will delight all but the most critical home user.

The JVC Everio GZ-MG77 Hard Disk Drive (HDD) camcorder is a good light easy to use camcorder for people who don’t want to use a lot of features, but would like the flexibility of a HDD camcorder.

The bottom line: The small size and massive video storage capacity of the JVC Everio GZ-MG77 make it a tantalizing choice, but poor video quality keeps this hard-disk-based camera from being a tape- or DVD-killer.
