Nintendo?s next-gen machine is a great addition to the console race, one that focuses on playability over power. It?s sure to win some new converts to gaming, although discerning tech-heads may balk at its lack of functionality and features.

As we said in NGC 115: it makes the right moves but doesn't quite scale the heights. And you can buy the GameCube version - without Ubisoft's half-hearted Wii controls - for around £20.

Fundamentally, Prince of Persia Rival Swords is a good game. The question, though, is whether Rival Swords is worth playing over the GameCube version of Two Thrones, which by this time is only $20. There's some added content that mostly equates to a few extra buzz saws lining the walls, so it really comes down to whether the motion controls are worth $30, which they aren't. In fact, the most that can be said for the motion controls is that they stay out of the way. In all other regards, Rival Swords is the same game as Two Thrones, so you'd be much better served just picking up the older version and squandering the $30 you saved on some kind of hardcore Prince of Persia action figure.

If you haven?t played Two Thrones before, the Wii rendition into Rival Swords is worth a look. Don?t expect next gen visuals, rather an example of a top quality last gen game. The unique controls scheme seems to work for the most part in Rival Swords, and is a fun game to play on the Wii, never mind it?s the only one with this type of content on the system. It?s hard for me to push Rival Swords because you can easily purchase Two Thrones for half the price. If you?re still interested Rival Swords, Ubisoft?s Two Thrones remix will probably meet your Arabian adventure expectations.

So now we come to the part where the game receives a score. Well, Rival Swords is a thoroughly enjoyable game and had we not experienced the same campaign eighteen months ago Rival Swords would have been very easy to recommend. Even now the single player campaign holds up well, but the addition of Wii specific controls aren't enough to make this game an essential purchase. Maybe if the title was released at a budget price point it would be easier to recommend, but only those who haven't experienced Two Thrones would be advised to pick this game up.

SSX isn?t an everybody game. It isn?t Wii Sports Snowboarding, and it won?t be a no-brainer for just anyone. The game demands coordination, but is also one of the more rewarding games on Wii. Not everyone will take this new control form in stride, but for those that put in the time and really explore the depth of the game?s design, SSX Blur is one of the top titles on Wii, and a must-have for the hardcore

A great deal of fun can be had with SSX Blur. Whilst control of the game is occasionally problematic, twisting and turning the nunchuk creates an incredibly immersive experience. It?s a shame that the same ability to make the player feel part of the game is not transferred over to other half of the controls, being the Wii remote. Blur carries the flag of the series relatively well, however it is definitely not the SSX title that raises it the highest.

When will developers learn that just because you can design a funky control scheme around the Wii Remote, it doesn't mean you should? SSX Blur could have been a decent ride, but its cumbersome control scheme dooms it to an arctic hell.

A lack new modes or scenarios let down what is otherwise a brilliant entry to the series. The great motion controls and slick graphical style make it well worth the purchase for any fan of the series, just don't expect any huge surprises.

This type of gaming experience can only be on the Nintendo Wii. Bright future for the Wii if more games follow this type of control setup.
