The first thing that struck me about the Pearl was when my girlfriend said ?what?s that and can I have one?. This has never happened with previous BlackBerrys I?ve had. Beneath the shinny exterior and mesmerising white pearl this is still the same old BB. All the software is the same and does what BlackBerrys do well, keeping you always connected to email, calendar and contacts.

I have really enjoyed using the BlackBerry Pearl for the past 2 weeks. I love the form factor, enjoy the trackball, love how fast the phone pulls down my email, and have been impressed by the battery life and reception? First and foremost, the biggest issue for me is the expensive monthly data plan. Then there's the email client. It lacks some important features that keep me from totally loving it. Another problem is the slow web browser. But I could live with that since I don't really surf all that often with my phone. I guess the BlackBerry Pearl is going to go live in my drawer of misfit phones for awhile... It's a sad sad thing...

In the enterprise market the BlackBerry still has a solid and faithful following but in the company that I am responsible for I have already replaced BlackBerry with Pocket PC and the reason for that comes down to the exchange server that I run, my Pocket PCs, smartphones and PalmOne Treos can synchronize with exchange directly, they don't need the costly BlackBerry Enterprise Server to help them out. By choosing Pocket PC over BlackBerry I'm just saving money, improving reliability, adding features and cutting out another step that I must provide and support, it's as simple as that.

Here is a nice explanatory review on RIM Blackberry 8700. I must add on here its earpiece quality, speaker phone and microphone sounds just great and its over all layout is genius.

The bottom line: The BlackBerry 8700 series is ideal for mobile professionals who require always-on e-mail access, but its cost and functionality won't be attractive to most non-business users.Don't miss this exclusive review on CNet
