Yet another all-in-one portable iPod speaker come charger, but this one is different – it’s really rather good for a start.

Everyone that hears this speker system cannot believe it comes from such a small size. I would recommend the remote which I do not have.

If design is important to you - and for many iPod owners, it is - On Stage Micro presents a compelling little package with typically JBL-quality good looks and efficiency. But if you’re willing to compromise on beauty, portable systems such as Logic3’s i-Station7 (iLounge rating: A) offer a roughly identical set of features - Universal Dock, remote, and low-end audio, here enhanced by a dedicated bass driver and standard Dock Connector port on the back - for the same price. Similarly, if you’re willing to give up the dock and remote, you’ll find that JBL’s On Tour offers superior sound, and can be found for even lower street prices.

The JBL On Stage Micro is a circular mini-speaker (6 inches in diameter, 1.8 inches high) with an iPod dock in the middle. This ultra-portable unit comes with its own carrying bag, which holds the included AC adapter and wireless remote. The sound was very clear with good power for the size, though the speaker lacked bass. The On Stage Micro is a good choice for small spaces like offices and hotel rooms.

It’s hard to find a small, affordable speaker system with truly great sound quality and the option to run off of battery power, but JBL’s On Tour comes as close as we’ve seen so far. In all ways save dockability - but notably including style, price, size, and audio quality - it compares favorably with the best of Altec Lansing’s offerings, which previously ruled this category.

The design of the OnTour unit is clean and simple. The OnTour will also make a fine external speaker for you laptop. So if your portable projector or laptop does not have good sound, consider adding an OnTour as part of your portable presentation system.

It's my third portable speaker products. It is perfect for travel because it is small and very portable - it even comes with a little protective pouch. The other nice thing is that it is not iPod specific so I can use not only my iPod, but also my CD player and laptop.

I think this product would be great for notebook users who either travel a great deal, or don't want a whole 5 point surround sound system hooked to their computer. I guess it's true what they say: Good things do come in small packages.

Harman Multimedia has done a good job of creating a small, light, and great-looking portable speaker system for portable music players and notebook computers. The JBL On Tour doesn't get very loud and lacks bass, but it produces surprisingly listenable output from a tiny box.
