Pros: sleek, lightweight and oh so handy
Cons: none that I have found!
For the past two years I have learned, through frustration and anxiety, how to fully utilize a Franklin Planner. I even went to the time-management seminar offered by the now Franklin-Covey company. I tell you what, save the money from the seminar,...

About a month ago, I started looking at Palms and was undecided as to whether I should get the beefier IIIx or the elegant V (the Windows CE handhelds were not even in the running). The Palm V was going to be the winner becau se of the sleek looks. I wanted the Vx, but I didn't think Circuit City carried it (I work at Circuit City and wanted that discount, ya know?). When I went in to purchase the Palm V, lo and behold, they had the Palm Vx for sale also. I special ordered it and had to wait about 10 days for it, but it was worth the wait. Please don't be jealous, I got it for $375 including tax.

The PalmOne Palm Vx is a Palm OS-based, consumer-oriented handheld device. Compared to other consumer-oriented handhelds on the market, it is relatively inexpensive at around $135.

The visual and tactile exploration for selection of a PDA caused this 4 oz. dynamo to shout 'yes, buy me'! It did not come with colored case or screen , but hands on comparison placed this model high on the scale for performance without depleting ones funds. It feels comfortable in my rather small hands and with a tap of the stylus programs appear surprisingly fast. Software loaded without a hitch and holds its place on my desktop. A few short hours of playing and reading were all that was needed to begin.

The Palm Vx handheld offers the same improvements to its screen that were made to the Palm IIIx. These updates since the Palm III handheld include a far sharper screen and contrast-variable backlighting, which makes the Palm Vx handheld much easier to use in low-light conditions. Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries, which charge while the unit sits in its HotSync cradle, make battery life a nonissue.

This is sleek, perfectly formed and easy to use, the Palm Vx is a masterpiece of the human-machine interface, which is why it sells so well. But despite improvements to the software and hardware, this is still not a machine for people looking for Web access on the move, or a colour screen.

The Palm V/ Vx series of handhelds for anyone needing the combination of a Palm V/Vx handheld and a GPS receiver. The GPS Companion works equally well with either the Palm V or Palm Vx handheld... The Magellan unit is a great bargain, and relatively easy to use. It requires probably 60 to 90 minutes to become comfortable with the Map Companion software, after which it became almost second nature to use.
