We just received an AG-HVX200 and I tell you, it's got more menus than a powerhouse Chinese restaurant. It's not for people who enjoy the pyro-friendly camera; there are menus with the depth of a 15-layer cake. The reason is because the camera can be configured into over 100 different ways of shooting.

The HVX200 inherits the variable frame rate capability of Panasonic’s popular, shoulder-mount AJ-HDC27 VariCam® HD Cinema camcorder. The HVX200 can capture fast or slow action in 720p at various frame rates — the first time this function is available in a hand-held camera. For exceptional image quality and flexible shooting, the AG-HVX200 elegantly combines native progressive 16:9 1/3 3-CCDs and a wide-angle, 13X Leica Dicomar HD lens (with optical image stabilization and a super-smooth, cam-driven manual zoom) to cover a wide range from 4.2mm to 55mm (35mm equivalent: 32.5mm to 423mm).

The bottom line: With its AG-HVX200, Panasonic raises the bar again, bringing us professional HD versatility and quality at a lower price than ever.

A versatile camera with more features than it's $77,000 big brother, but at a fraction of the cost. True High Definition video with very little compression. I tested JVC's ProHD GY-HD100U and Cannon's XL H1 HD camcorders. The Panasonic HVX200 beat them hands down in comparable picture quality, functionality and overall camera durability design.
