As a starter it is easy to use in auto mode. So without knowing much about photography I can get good shots even before I learn more about all of the camera's capabilities.

This little camera takes high quality photos that are comparable to an SLR that belongs to my grandson. The optic zoom is must better than I expected and the resolution of the photos, even at full zoom, is very good. If you a very good, inexpensive came for general use, you can't beat this one.

Overall though, for a handy, budget camera that you can carry around without really worrying about it getting damaged, it's fantastic. Obviously it's no DSLR - you only get a limited set of manual controls - but its size and price mean that it'll get used more often than a camera you have to carry in a kit bag.

As an inexpensive point-and-shoot, the Canon PowerShot A550 isn't perfect, but it delivers quality shots and good performance.

Another great compact camera from Canon, the PowerShot A550 won't compare to some more high-end units, but considering the price tag and the features on offer, it's an excellent value-for-money product.

Canon’s budget range of PowerShot models has been beefed up with the PowerShot A550, a compact and easy to use 7-megapixel model that has a great price and nice feature set.

As prices fall and you can pick up digital cameras by named brands for around £70 this is one of the more expensive cameras towards the lower end of the market. In my opinion though the Canon Powershot A550 underlines the fact that if you are prepared to pay a bit more for your digital camera you will be well rewarded when it comes to picture quality. Recommended.

As we've come to expect from Canon's A-series, the PowerShot A550 is a great little digicam. Fairly frill-free, the Canon A550 still takes great shots with its 7-megapixel sensor. It has a satisfying 4x zoom, and is quite easy to use. The A550's no-nonsense mode dial is backed up by a simple Function menu; and though you can dig deeper with the main menu, you'll find fewer settings there than on other Canon models. In my opinion, less is more when it comes to a camera meant for the mass-market. More options will only confuse and invite error.
