A very powerful Treo for Cingular customers. Not long after the launch of the Treo 680, Palm and Cingular are at it again with the introduction of the 3G-compatible and Windows Mobile-enabled Treo 750. It's the most powerful Treo in Cingular's PDA phone lineup, offering new and improved phone and ...

The Treo 750 makes great phone calls, but it looks a bit dull and plump compared with its smartphone competition.

I've had this phone for around 2 weeks now, it is a really nice phone. I originally owned a sprint treo 650, then I upgraded to the Treo 700p. Once this phone was released for Cingular I had to get it so I cancelled with sprint and switched to Cingular. The design of this phone really makes a difference from the 700p. The windows operating system is not as easy as the palm and user friendly but it operates alot quicker and internet explorer is 10 times faster than blazer.

Once you have everything setup and working, the Treo 750 makes for a solid, though not quite enviable laptop sidekick. Setup was more difficult than it should be, requiring a walk through the Windows Network Connections Wizard, which is never fun. Microsoft's Mobile Office is a clean, capable set of programs that strongly resemble their full versions, and Palm has left the programs unchanged since the Treo 700wx. The calendar and agenda on the Treo 750 were little changed from the Treo 700wx, which was fine with us.

The good: The Palm Treo 750 sports a more compact design and comes with integrated Bluetooth, a 1.3-megapixel camera, and world phone capabilities. The Windows-based smart phone also works on Cingular's 3G UMTS network and has push e-mail and the new threaded chat view. The bottom line: The Palm Treo 750 includes some nice enhancements and offers good usability, but you can get more for your money with the Cingular 8525.

The Treo 750's hardware design is very much the same as all the other Treo's. The internal antenna design and soft-touch rubbery backing are the most noticeable and welcomed differences.

The Treo 750 features a striking resemblence to the recently released Palm Treo 680. The antenna is now internal, so gone is the chunky antenna stub that was so familiar of the Palm Treo family since the days of the Treo 600. Internalizing the antenna also gives the appearance of a smaller smartphone. The Palm Treo 750 features a QWERTY keyboard. I immediately sensed a very tactical feel while typing on the Treo 750. It is very responsive and the feedback generated by the keyboard was great.

Coming from a Cingular 8125 I must say that this phone is much much better. I evaluated the 8525 as an upgrade to the 8125 but it provided minimal upgrades and is really held back by its processor (the camera is still jerky, apps still take awhile to start/stop). BUT, the Palm is snappy as ever... the camera, even though its a 1.3MP is fast and actually usable. The lack of WiFi is a little disappointing but 3G speeds make up for it. I'm only getting 384kbps in a 3G coverage zone but an HSDPA upgrade is supposed to be forthcoming (as of Jan 30, 2007) which will bring the phone to 700+kbps. My sole complaint is battery life but even still its not enough to knock this phone down from a five star rating.
