The 56K V.92 Performance Pro Modem from U.S. Robotics ® combines enhanced performance and reliability with the advantages of V.92 ITU standard technology. It is capable of receiving data at up to 56 Kbps and sending data at up to 48 Kbps. The Internet Call Notification (ICN) feature allows you to screen incoming calls so you can take only the important ones. Additionally, Modem-on-Hold allows you to take incoming calls without losing the Internet connection – eliminating the need for a second phone line. This modem incorporates advanced line probing technology for finding the ‘ potholes ’ in your V.92/V.90 connection. It tells your provider ’ s equipment how to avoid the conditions that cause slowdowns and dropped calls. In addition, a built-in digital line guard provides circuit protection to your circuit when you connect to a digital or PBX phone line.

USR: Not what it used to be

This modem is very unreliable. It can't hold a connection for more than an hour before randomly cutting out. My wife's 56K modem (Apple) never misses a beat on same phone line. USR warranty is now only two years. On top of that, customer support by phone is only free for 90 days. After that you pay... for the privilege. You can probably buy a better modem for [the money ] . By the way, that's what I'm gonna do.
