Pros: Wonderful, rich sound, solidly built, relatively inexpensive, THX certified, all sorts of connectors
Cons: Bass a bit boomy. Not as loud as I thought. Plasticy feel of Control Center
If you ' re staring at this review, then you ' re probably contemplating on these Logitech Z5500 or the Klipsch Promedia 5.1 speakers. Well, let me tell you why I bought the Logitech Z5500 ' s. It costs $215. The Klipsch Promedia 5.1 ' s were still over...

Just when you thought it couldn't get any better it does. The engineers at Logitech went back to the drawing board to create the new Z-5500 Digital - their best speaker system to date. The Z-5500 Digital is a THX certified speaker system and is targeted at consumers who want the best of the best in sound for their home theater system or PC. With the Z-5500, Logitech creates their most powerful and complete speaker system ever.

Sound quality wise, the Z-5500 and Z-680 are very close to each other. This isn't surprising since they share the same satellite drivers. The big difference between the Z-680 and Z-5500 is in bass performance. The new 10 inch subwoofer used by the Z-5500 is a lot more efficient and can play a lot lower than the 8 inch unit used in the Z-680.

The quality of the satellite speakers were pretty darn good. The cones are made of polyeruthane with rubber surrounding it.

Looking at the subwoofer, satellites, and console, it was clear that this was as serious as a computer speaker setup gets. It was not going to disappoint, either. This speaker system does not come cheap, but I will tell you it is worth every penny. Listening to music through it is bliss. If you are looking for a new set of speakers, and these cost as much as $150 more than you would be ordinarily willing to pay, make the investment. You'll be happy that you did.

With a street price of around $280, I found the THX certified Logitech Z-5500 Digital Multimedia Speaker system to be more than sufficient for creating realistic gaming effects. It is also a flexible enough system to allow use with either multiple stereo input sources, or a combination of 6-channel input and coax/optical S/PDIF output from a CD or DVD player. This is a full surround sound system plus a pretty sophisticated digital compact receiver.

The Logitech Z-5500 Digital speaker system is a 5.1-channel behemoth that boasts a wealth of connectivity options and multi-channel effects. It's a perfect match for most game consoles, home theaters, and PCs—but its bombastic low end can become overbearing with certain types of source material.
