Mtv's AMP 2
One need not go any further than the opening track of MTV's AMP 2 to justify the existence of this compilation of 1998 electronic music. Fatboy Slim's " Rockefeller Skank " is one of those sublime heavyweight tracks that can shake booties, galvanize pop movements and cross over into any chart it wants. All catch-phrase loops, surf guitar and big, big beat, it furthers Slim's rep as a guy who (literally) rocks the dance floor. The rest is a well-rounded smattering of previously released tracks, many of which appear in the form of hard-to-find mixes. From Beck rebuilding Air using samples of crunching potato chips to Method Man abandoning the RZA's production for Prodigy's digital doodles to Roni Size's break-beat take on jazz, AMP 2 is the sound of revolutionary artists diving headlong into the new frontier. Follow 'em if you dare.
