    • Haunted

When a boarder at the Mariell manor reportedly sees ghosts, Professor David Ash (Aidan Quinn) makes a house call to investigate. As he attempts to rationalize the possibility of ghosts, he falls for the alluring Christina Mariell (Kate Beckinsale) and soon finds himself spotting specters as well. < br > < br > Based on the novel by James Herbert, HAUNTED is director Lewis Gilbert's first endeavor into horror, and he succeeds spectacularly. The film features his quick-paced style of action, evinced in his James Bond films, THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, MOONRAKER, and YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, but is also reminiscent of his noir-like films, CAST A DARK SHADOW and TOUGH GUY. A drastic departure from his previous film, 1991's light, feel-good STEPPING OUT, HAUNTED is a modern take on an old-fashioned macabre tale and an essential film for any horror fan.

Robert Englund does a great job in his role of Freddy, sometimes it seems the glove is another character in the movie as well. Everybody else does a great job as well mostly playing victims for Freddy. As you can probably guess there as not many recurring characters in these movies. Freddy (Robert Englund) pretty much kills everything but there are a couple that make multiple movie appearances (usually the survivors of the previous film) some of these characters are Heather Langenkamp, John Saxon and Lisa Wilcox. I won?t go into detail as I don?t want to spoil it but Wes Craven?s New Nightmare is very unique and very entertaining. When it first came out it was one of them movies that made you say "that was really freaky stuff", very enjoyable.

    • DVD Review: Tower of Evil (1972)

This movie was also known as Beyond The Fog and Horror on Snape Island, but it could easily have been called Don't Go In The Lighthouse!A quintessential teen horror movie and an almost perfect case study as a link between the old and the new - the rules of old Hollywood haunted house films, and ...

    • DVD Review: Ghost Stories (2000)

This is a welcome release of the animated Japanese TV series, Gakko no Kaidan, which literally translates as 'School Ghost Stories'. Although it's set around a haunted school, this anime isn't connected to the four live-action films called Haunted School (1996 to 1999).The ...

    • The Road by Cormac McCarthy - Book Review

McCarthy’s new novel, The Road, combines Blood Meridian’s terse, poetic meditations on the horrific depths of human depravity with the taut, thriller writing found in his most recent work, No Country for Old Men. What separates The Road from his other works is McCarthy’s ability to capture moments of lyrical and emotional beauty in a father and son’s haunted relationship even as a silent cloud of death covers the world in darkness.
