Pros: Works with practically every conceivable infrared-controllable device.
Cons: A few little user interface glitches on Mac OS.
After buying a new flatscreen TV then hooking up our game console, DVD player, VCR, and stereo system, we had 5 remote controls to deal with. Even our modest setup required remembering how our devices are interconnected then using 2 or 3 remote controls...

This is a great remote. I know a person who has it and has problems. They say

The good: More attractive shape than previous Harmony remotes; strong backlight; choice between device or activity usage; intuitive, Web-based programming; Windows and Mac compatible. The bottom line: At less than $100, the sleekly designed Logitech Harmony 520 is a relative bargain among PC-programmable remotes--if you don't count the two other nearly identical Harmony models.

Anyone with a home theater will understand this challenge. You get everything to work just the way you want it... you know which remote controls the TV, which one controls the volume, which one changes the channel on the satellite receiver or the cable set-top box, but when you leave your wife alone with it all Hell breaks loose. No one but you can get the system to function correctly. The Harmony series of remotes solves all that at a price point that fits most budgets. I purchased this remote after concluding that the Logitech Harmony 880, while performing all of the functions that I needed, simply was too expensive as an entry level home theater remote (retail price is $199, available as low as $175). I returned the 880 and have been very happy with the 520 (retail price is $99, available as low as $75) ever since. In short, this is a remote that I would recommend to entry level home theater users, non-technically inclined friends and family, etc. I would rate is an 8 or 9 out of a possible 10.

I programmed this remote using the Logitech Harmony Remote Software on my MacBook (Mac OS X 10.4.8). It is a marked improvement over the old web based system, and makes setting up the remote remarkably painless. I chose this remote because of its manageably small number of buttons, something I could control in the dark. Sometimes, I wish for more buttons: closed caption, clear, PIP, etc. but in general I'm satisfied with the labels and choice. The buttons are of a variety of textures: rubberized playback controls, metallic volume controls, hard plastic navigation controls, contoured specialized buttons, etc; this aids blind usage. I don't care for the "Activity" button or the 4 raised buttons around the display, they are hard to press, and my wife especially has trouble pushing them.

The Harmony 520 is the most economical activity-based remote control from Logitech. It features a completely redesigned format, backlit LCD screen with 4 adjacent hard buttons, fully backlit keypad, code learning, USB communications and online setup.

The Bottom Line: If you have multiple remotes, internet access, and need a single, simple remote, then this is a perfect choice. Watch out for computer and hardware compatibility issues.

The buttons on this remote are a bit bigger than previous Harmony remotes but they were difficult to press at times. The activity button required are very hard push to activate. Programming the 520. like all Harmony remotes, is a snap. But with all that said the only reason to buy this remote is the price.

It really is easy to set up. The display lights up when you pick it up.(Nice feature). It controls everything except for my Bose system. But I still like it.
