First of all, let me say that this unit is very well worth the money. As "just a dvd player" I give it FIVE over FIVE points (or ten/ten if you wish).

The Philips DVP 642 recognizes not only DivX and Xvid files (movies) but also MP3s (music) and JPEG (photo) extensions and disc formats like VCDs, SVCDs and DVDs. Its quite thin and stylish in looks. Check out the review to know more about this player.

This is the best looking low profile and light weight DVD player I have seen on the market. It plays everything flawlessly including my DivX files, which have several built in subtitles, which the unit automatically detects. My only quirk with this is that certain high compression DivX files are slightly choppy because the onboard decoder cannot handle the bitrate. However, this is only a minor issue if you are playing high compression DivX files in the 700MB+ range.
